CSV to vCard Conversion Tool

∇ Category:Technology and Toys |5 Comments |

Recently my company moved phones systems to a new VOIP provider. The transition was much smoother than expected on a technical level but we now have all new phone numbers. This posed a challenge to update everyone’s individual vCards. We had all this information in a spreadsheet so I figured I would just download a spreadsheet (or csv file) to vCard converter. After spending way too much time looking, I decided just to build one myself. I have it located at http://dennismueller.org/blog/tools/vcard/csv-to-vcard/

Here is the tool:

You can download the source CSV to VCF at dennismueller.org/tools/csv2vcf.zip

Dennis, hopefully you read this soon – your vCard converter is bugged. Soon as I converted a test CSV to vCard I was brought to a PHP error page where a BUNCH of contacts from god knows where showed up. From there, I was able to view their contact details. Please remove everyone’s stuff. I’m sure they would probably question the safety of whether or not the contacts’ information is retrievable and thus, data mine-able. Thanks.

I tried this, but on the result page, could not download file as it says no file found when clicked on the file link.

Hope this is not to try and take peoples contacts. tks

I just tried it and it had no issue. You can try using a download tool like “DownThemAll!” for Firefox to download the content.

I provide a button that says “Delete vcards files” to clean up the server and remove all personal data. I clean it up every now and again. If people choose not to delete their old vcards after they make them, that is their choice.

Also you can also just download this tool and run it locally or someplace more secure than the internet. It is completely open source and free. All you need to do is install in on a system with PHP to run it.
