Canon MP480 All-in-One Photo Printer
Canon MP480 All-in-One Photo Printer
I purchased this printer a about 8 months ago and it is one of the best all-in-one printers I have ever owned. It works great on multiple platforms (mac, windows, etc…). The printer is easy to use, truly a plug and play device and the quality of print is solid on both text and photos. The scanner has saved my butt many times when working from home. The real ease of use test is that I have purchased the same model for my parents (not very tech savvy folks) and have not had to do any troubleshooting since plugging it in. I would highly recommend it.

The best part, is that is sells for around $70 (as of this post) and comes with ink and usb cable so you can start printing right away.

The Ink:

Star Trek

I admit it, I like Tribbles and I am quite fond of that intergalactic swinger, i mean space ship captain, James Tiberius Kirk that “explores” the universe seeking hot alien to make first contact with. ;) So needless to say, I am eager to see the new Star Trek prequel on IMAX on Saturday. Though this review does have me worried.

Fallout 3For those who have never played Fallout, it is basic premise that World War 3 happens. The depth and richness of the post apocalyptic world of Fallout 3 is immersive and completely addictive. All throughout the world there are bits and pieces of pre-war world which was a throw back to modernized 1950’s America. The whole pre-war world is very tongue and cheek and the violence in the game is just as over the top. Through the use of giant bomb shelters call vaults, sold by the Vault-Tec company, your character’s ancestors survive. And as the game starts, a hundred or so years later, you have to help save the people of the wasteland.

Beyond the main plot there are many story lines and lots of side adventures. You can ultimately explore the whole world as you advance in skill (level). While adventuring you talk to various people and your deeds give (or take away) Karma, depending on your Karma rating, good or bad, the world treats you very differently. Fallout 3 still keeps the interactive aspects and character building of previous versions with the addition of a first person option for more real time action. The old turn based combat is still available functions well.

Fallout is a throwback to a game I used to play called Wasteland. If you want to see some old screen shots check this out:

iPhone Jailbreak

∇ Category:Technology and Toys |1 Comments |

iPhone Hacked by Dennis Mueller, on Flickr
A dear friend of mine is moving to Canada for 6 months and she bought a Gen 1 iPhone. Unfortunately AT&T is not in Canada and the Canadian alternative would require her to purchase a long contract with a huge monthly fee. I offered to try to jailbreak her phone. Never having done it before I started doing research. I found a huge amount of sites and information out there some free, some simple, some by people who should never be allowed to publish on the internet.

I ended up being successful with ZiPhone:
http://download.ziphone.org/ the site has binaries for both windows and mac.

It worked flawlessly, withing 20 minites the phone was up and running.  I would highly recommend the product.

He does have a donation site.  Keep software free, please remember to donate if it works for you.  I dontated €5.00 EUR to the cause which came out to be like $7.40. Damn, the US economy sucks.

Thurgood, so good!

Thurgood - Laurence Fishburne

I went to a play tonight. As always the theater staff announces “please take this time to turn off all phones and electronics. And all recording is prohibited”. It is amazing to think how much I am part of the documentation movement that has to twit details of my life and photo graph what I eat. I sometimes feel like it would not be real if I did not share it digitally.< I definitely was not always this way. Quite the opposite. I hated taking photos unless it was for artistic purposes and I definitely preferred privacy over any publication of my experiences. Stepping out from behind the camera, not recording the moment but truly experiencing the live performance is a refreshing change. And it was easy to do with this play.

I saw Thurgood tonight; a one-man play about the life of Thurgood Marshall. Lawrence Fishburne‘s performance as Thurgood was fabulous. I was completely captivated and he nearly brought me to tears as he lead me (and the rest of the audience) through the life of a man who became a civil right pioneer. When this play travels, don’t wait to see it.The story of the Thurgood Marshall is one that should not go unheard. Please take the time to go see this eloquent performance and learn more about Thurgood’s positive contribution to our country.
