Girls just want to have fun, or so goes the song. That’s the case in The Sweetest Thing (2002) when three girls who love to party gallivant around town on a girl’s night out to cheer up Jane Burns (Selma Blair). Burns has been emotionally depressed, having been dumped by an uncaring boyfriend once too often. Two attractive girls, Christina Walters (Cameron Diaz) and Courtney Rockcliffe (Christina Applegate), never pass up a fun night and have just the prescription for Burns' depression. The twosome plans a night on the town’s activities, mostly including bars, beer and boys, in an effort to cheer up their friend. Along the way one guy, Peter Donahue (Thomas Jane), catches the wandering eyes of Walters and she immediately become enamored with him and wants to snare his affections. It is not an easy task. As luck would have it, Donahue exits before Walters casts her spell on him, and the rest of the movie is an uproarious series of pitfalls as the girls weave here and there in their Saab station wage attempting to find the elusive hunk. Complicating the quest is the fact that Donahue is firmly engaged, so the girls find themselves faced with numerous conundrums. |
