Plot |
In this courtroom thriller based on the novel of the same name by John Grisham the question is who controls the jury? When Jacob Woods (an uncredited Dylan McDermott cameo) is gunned down at his office by a crazed ex-coworker his wife becomes involved in a case against the gun manufacturers for damages. The prosecuting attorney, Wendell Rohr (Dustin Hoffman), doesn't believe in jury selection services as offered by young Lawrence Green (Jeremy Piven). However the defense believes in it strongly and has retained Rankin Fitch (Gene Hackman), who is highly regarded as the best jury selection man. What the defense and the prosecution don't know is that there is someone else interested in controlling the outcome of the trial. Nicholas Easter (John Cusack) and Marlee (Rachel Weisz) are working together to control the trial and the jury and put the verdict up for sale to the highest bidder. When Easter is selected for the jury the race to the verdict between the defense, the prosecution, and Nicholas and Marlee, begins. |
